I heard one of the local TV weathermen stating that it was just horrible where we are and how we had it worse than St. Louis. Um, no… moron. We only got a little bit of ice and a little tiny bit of snow.

Now it’s snowing pretty good, though, and several days later we now have about 2 or 3 inches of snow. I’ll take snow over ice any day but I’m feeling like I’m just so over winter. Of course, I’m trying not to rush it, I am NOT ready for summer or heat.

I am, however, hoping I’m not getting sick. Today seems to have blessed me with a stuffier head than normal and a new cough. I need to go take my allergy medicine, could just be the fact that we’re getting precipitation.

So what else?

Elijah keeps informing me of things such as the definition of “double date” and the fact that he not only knows who Justin Bieber is, but can’t stand him. This kid is like a sponge…

Kayleigh’s been extra snotty this week. Not in the literal sense but in that she has been throwing her food more than normal lately. I don’t know if she’s just not as hungry or if she’s gotten sick of Goldfish (after I bought her a new huge carton), or what.

Here it is Saturday and I haven’t been out of the house since a brief run to the grocery store on Monday. Snowing again and we need milk and roast beef because I am completely obsessed with sliced roast beef right now and Kayleigh’s love affair with milk continues. Also need baby food as I’ve been shoving more than usual down her throat due to her throwing more food lately.

I don’t know if it’s the weather or what but I am feeling extra-like not doing anything lately. I desperately need to fold some laundry and I just can’t find it in myself. Or I start and get in only three articles of clothing before I get distracted. Also need to clean the stupid bathroom. I want a bathroom that cleans itself. And a dish washer. Yeah, a dish washer.

Poor Kayleigh. I had her at church with me tonight and was making her walk with me, holding my hand. She usually just gets carried because she runs off but that kid is getting heavy! We were going to get Elijah from his class. She let go of me and went ahead and started looking at some women talking. Just as I was calling out to her, “Kayleigh, you’re gonna run right into that wall!” Boom. Oops! She just kind of looked at the wall like “how did you get there?” then went on her own way again!

The kids both had an appointment with the ophthalmologist this morning. Please remind me in the future to never make another appointment for 9 am again, especially in the winter! Nearly killed me getting there. Kayleigh looks good, the doctor says he’ll see her again when she starts Kindergarten. He alluded to wanting to make sure she doesn’t end up with the same problem E has. And on E’s side, his eye is better. He was 20/400 in the left eye when we first found out about this and now he is 20/100 which is actually better than both of my eyes. However, it is still a “lazy” eye, he is still very right eye dominant. The doctor said the same things as last time which basically amounted to well keep wearing the glasses, patch him if you can, don’t expect a full recovery. I talked to the nurse about our seeing Narnia in 3D. Elijah then failed one 3D test but passed the other so she said she really couldn’t say if he could see the movie in 3D or not. She said some kids fail their tests but can see movies fine or the other way around. From what I gather with E, he could see it somewhat or sometimes.

We got some snow the other day, looks like maybe 3 inches. It wasn’t so cold when it came down but today has been bitterly cold and windy, I think tomorrow is supposed to be worse. Yesterday, Elijah wanted to play in the snow. After school, I said. After school came and went and before I knew it, it was 4 pm. He was playing with Legos when I said, “if you want to go outside, you’d better go now, because it’s going to be getting dark.” He put me off, he was BUSY. An hour later he’s ready to go out and I said nope, it’s too dark! Then, of course, it’s somehow MY fault he didn’t get to play outside in the snow. Today after the doctor’s appointment I asked him if he wanted to play outside. Nope. Sometimes I don’t get this kid.

Hmmm… I guess I really don’t know what else I have to say. :)

We got some more snow on Thursday, the second snowfall of this winter season. I think we got something like 6 inches. Either way, it was enough that Steve was off work on Friday. He could have gotten to work just fine, but none of the other guys wanted to go in so they just called it off! Of course, the last two weeks have been awesome for work because he’s only been 25 minutes from home instead of 80 miles away. He’s been home earlier, gotten to leave later, and has only bought gas once a week for his truck as opposed to three times.

So, anyway, yesterday we took E out to Steve’s parents to play again. I just prefer to do that, he can actually sled somewhat and there’s so much more room and no nosy neighbors that might be nearby. So he had two rounds of fun in the freezing cold and was mad later when it was getting dark that he couldn’t go out again.

Today when we went out it was afternoon but I had noticed earlier in the morning that it was already warm. Most of the snow had melted but there was still about 3 inches covering the ground, getting icy and slushy. So we played around and made Daddy mad by throwing snowballs at him. In his defense, some of them were pretty rough, being almost fully ice by the time I was done with them. He was mad that I hit him in the butt and got his wallet wet and he finally retaliated and as I stepped backwards, I went right over this foot and a half tall snowball he had made for Elijah to make a snowman. (Of course, we had that and then a foot sized snowball and Elijah had put a two inch head on the thing and then promptly knocked the middle ball off. I said, “Ah! You killed him!” Elijah got all evil and was all, “die snowman, die, muahahaha.” Kinda creepy like. :P) So then I’m soaked, of course, but laying there laughing in the snow.

What really killed me, however, was what is pictured to the left there. Steve loaded up some wood in the wagon to take inside for the wood stove and Elijah was “helping” him, supposed to have been pushing the wagon. What was he really doing? He had one hand on the wagon and the other had a little thin stick from the globe willow tree. He kept snapping it on the wood and making the sounds of a cracking whip. Well, we thought it was funny anyway. Especially because before he started making the noises, Steve said something like it would be funnier if he knew what he was doing. Then he made the noise and we both lost it – he did know what he was doing! Giddy-up, Daddy!

Well we did get some snow, only about two inches here, but enough up a bit north of us that they canceled church services for last Sunday. So we went instead to my in-laws and let Elijah play in the snow. He had a blast and took two bouts with inside playtime between. Of course, he was quite upset when it was time to leave and threw his customary fit.

The thing about snow though, is that it makes even the ugly seem beautiful. It makes the winter more bearable for those of us who don’t like the cold so much – it’s so pretty and, of course, fun.

So anyone else out there get snow recently? Surprisingly, this was our first snow of the year. Usually we have a small one in late October or early November. I’m hard pressed to remember a time it waited until mid-to-late December to snow even a bit. Of course, now it’s the end of Tuesday and it’s almost already gone. It’s all muddy out there now. Sunday was the only day we got to play as I was too busy and E got into trouble yesterday and today, yeah, all muddy. I ended up having to run out of town, anyway, and sadly, not coming home with the most important things I’d had to head out for.

So, here’s a video, too, from the snow day. Enjoy :P

Actually, I’m not sure what the deal is but that video keeps lagging and jumping around – let me know if it does the same for you.

Two Thursday’s ago, it rained ice around here but nothing around our house really accumulated. It started again last night around 12:30. Didn’t accumulate much, about an inch to an inch and a half of ice, but it’s snowing out there now.

While I’m hoping the snow doesn’t get too bad, the highlight of my day was throwing ice balls at Steve. :P

Thankfully he didn’t reciprocate ’cause those things can be brutal. He’s looking out the window now though, telling the sky to “c’mon and snow!” He wants to do donuts in parking lots, apparently.

I’m almost surprised I’m not frostbit, though. When he got back with a trailer full of wood, I helped bring it in the house and never bothered to put real shoes on – just my customary sandals.

So we’ll see what happens. Some parts of our state are expecting something like 15 inches. While the snow is okay, I don’t really like being cold (of course, now we have some decent wood, so that’s good) and I get frustrated if the weather hampers my plans. ;-)

A couple more photos:

It’s around 43° F outside… and it’s snowing. What’s up with that!? The snow has been coming down all day with the temperatures in the 40′s. Crazy!!

So I was reading this morning that Anderson, Alaska is giving away free land to encourage people to move there.

Steve’s talked about moving to Alaska as long as I can remember. He loves the snow and the land and wildlife, and all that jazz. Until last year, I was vehemently opposed. But now I don’t think it would be so bad, except he’d better get a job good enough for us to be able to afford to fly and visit family a couple of times a year.

I think in Alaska the weather, while cold, is at least more predictable than it is here, hahaha. I just can’t believe how it’s coming down out there. We’ve no fire going right now, either. Steve’s spending the day working on my clothes washer which suddenly decided it wasn’t going to spin clothes the other day. It took me all of half a second to realize I didn’t want to wring out all those clothes by hand…

On the other hand, I don’t need the snow sticking right now. I have things I have to do away from home tomorrow and Monday. Then we can get snowed in…
