We went to Six Flags again on Monday, the last time we went was April 14th, and I think this past Monday was nicer weather than it was then. It ended up being the perfect day to go. It started out a bit hot (we got there around 2pm) but soon the sun went behind the clouds for about 90% of the day so it was quite nice.

This time, Sarah and I took my sister and one of my brothers. My mom watched E. :-) The photo to the left was taken when we entered the park. They practically tackle you and make you get your photo taken, give you a card, and tell you where you can view your photo and/or buy it. There were several other photos taken of us during the day (snapped while on rides) but this is the only one I bought. I was actually impressed that we all look good, even if the photography itself leaves much to be desired.

But not only was it the perfect day to go because of the weather, it was perfect because we hardly had to wait in any lines, there was just no one there. I was surprised, though, because it’s not like school is in session right now. I guess most of the kids didn’t have a ride on a Monday.

There was one thing that disappointed me greatly, though, and it happened right away. We headed to Batman The Ride – a marvelous roller coaster where your feet hang free. My bro and sis got on the ride, then Sarah, then I was going to be in the last seat (there are four in a row). Only I realized something very quickly… I was too fat for this ride.

Now, something that does make me feel a bit better is that I remember it being a tight fit when I was just out of high school and still skinny. Wide hips just run in both sides of my family, there’s nothing I can do about that. But I wasn’t going to sit there and try to wiggle in, though if I would have kept trying, I maybe could have made it. So I just got up and walked through to the other side. Sarah chickened out immediately and joined me. More consolation came when they took off and returned literally a minute and a half later, if that. At least it was over before it started.

I mostly did okay the rest of the day but there are a few other rides where I found it uncomfortable to be fat. The Screaming Eagle – which is another roller coaster, built in 1976, I believe it was, they say it was the longest and fastest in the country when it was built. The fit is kinda tight there, though I can ride pretty comfortable. Same with the new ride, the Superman Tower of Power. This ride has hangy-seats like the Batman but all it does is go straight up up up up up up up upup and then you hang there for a minute and the seats drop one at a time. It is awesome and I was glad I could ride it. I think the rest are okay for me, the Boss included, as if I remember correctly, it was more like a bench seat that you share with the other person and a lap bar, no seatbelts or barriers between the seats. I didn’t ride The Ninja though, I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able to or would have been uncomfortable as it has separate seating, too. But Sarah didn’t want to ride it, so we sat out. (She doesn’t want to go upside down.)

But I wonder about someone who’s heavier than me. Because, to tell you the truth, there are a lot of people. And I wonder why some of these rides aren’t more accessible to people. And if you want to get technical, this doesn’t just include fat – I’ve known some big people who are just tall and broad and, I tell you what, even for me, there is absolutely no leg room on the Mine Train. That’s the worst for as far as leg room goes and so there, it’s not my fat that would make me uncomfortable. But why can’t rides like the Screaming Eagle have the last car couple of cars or so made for a larger person? Wouldn’t that make sense? And, yes, of course, I know that there are other disabilities we could take into account here, but I’m just concentrating on person size here…

Oh well, moving along.

Here are some more of my favorite photos from the day…

Yesterday I took Sarah to Six Flags for the first time. It was a long day to say the least, but we did have a ton of fun. It was nice to get a “vacation” from the everyday even if it was extremely hot!

On the drive up, I realized I had not been to Six Flags in nearly seven years, since 1999! While a lot of it was the same, there was also a lot of new things: new rides, a new kiddy area, and the new policies that require us to enter through metal detectors and then get any bags checked before we even get to the ticket windows.

We processed our season passes (which took for.ev.er to get through the line and all of five seconds to process as we were herded through like cattle) and then started with the rides.

It was extremely cool because Sarah had never been before, she didn’t even know what a roller coaster was! I did my best to explain to her, but the best explanation was really just getting her on the Mine Train. We laughed so hard, my lips were almost frozen in a permanent smile (a scary one that shows alllllll the teeth). She freaked for a second when we went in the tunnel and the nearly straight down drop, but it only lasts a second so she was okay. We ended up riding that first and then last in the day.

We rode the bumper cars, the Screaming Eagle (roller coaster), Rush Street Flier (no way to describe this, really), the swings, Thunder River (boats along a “river”), the HUGE ferris wheel (that sucked, long story), and more. Of course, we got soaked on the Thunder River. Everyone says “duh” to that but I don’t think I’ve ever actually been soaked on that ride before. Of course, though, the one time I would have my purse and camera…

Soaked to the skin we went out to the Jeep, laid down the backseat, and changed clothes. That was a trip for sure. And, of course, we still had wet butts thanks to our underwear. :)

After it was all said and done, we went to the MercyMe concert. (And there you have it, that’s what the photo from the previous photo is from, my cell phone at the concert.)

Can you guess which song they opened with?

You got it!!

Spoken For! :-)

The concert was great, even if we were in the beyond-nose-bleed seats. I think that was the third time I’ve seen MercyMe (I’ve been following them since before they put out Almost There when they had out two cds I don’t even think you can get anymore and they don’t advertise on their site last I checked) and I can’t wait to get their new cd later this month, the one I pre-ordered. :)

So I’ve had a long weekend, and it’s only Saturday. I’ll finish uploading all the photos later, I promise, some of them are pretty good, actually. I’ll probably update this post with the photos as well. If you’re going to want to “check on” the photos, the whole set will be located here. So, until then, goodnight and Happy Easter everyone. :)

Well, I guess I’m going to get to do something I’ve never done before… Get season passes for Six Flags over St. Louis.

Sarah is my only “employee” of Little Light. She cleans wax out of jars and gets paid on a per-jar basis and then also works fairs with me, at least the Saturday, if they are two days. Last year, we had an agreement. After she did the five fall fairs, at least one day, I took her to Chucky Cheese where she had a blast, we all did. I’ve instructed her to be thinking about what she wants to do this year, after the spring/early summer fairs, and then after the late summer/fall fairs. Sunday she finally made up her mind: Six Flags. And I suggested, why not get season passes, then we could go at least twice – after going twice, you’ve already saved money rather than buying full price tickets each time.

However, I think I may have to “pre-pay” her before she starts doing fairs as MercyMe will be performing at our Six Flags on April 14th. If I’m going to get season passes, gosh dang it, I’m also gonna go to that concert! If it’s not already obvious to you that I l♥ve MercyMe, take a look around their website… you’ll find it. (hint:

)

So, anyway, I’m just hoping I can afford this. :P Doesn’t look like I’m going to end up getting my part of our tax return. Because of last year’s losses (LOL) our tax return went up $1200. I was going to claim that to go on my business credit card but a certain someone thought that it should go toward fixing our car, if not, then our credit card – in reality, it went toward the downpayment on the Jeep (I actually wrote this post last Sunday lol). I, however, make it clear that if I can’t lower my business credit card a bit I may be in serious trouble halfway through this season. But, again, this one-time purchase for tickets and a parking pass and then Sarah and I can take our own lunches and stuff, so, hopefully, this type of thing won’t be adding a lot to my business card.

But, hey, I gotta give the kid an incentive to help out, right? I mean, I know she enjoys doing it – when I first started, she came up to me and said, “hey, your fairs… can I come… and, like… help?” But it’s nice to be able to reward her. And it’s really nice to have her along, she keeps things fresh and if it’s just the two of us, then I’m free to go to the bathroom and am confident in knowing that she can handle the table while I’m gone. The only problem is she sometimes forgets to write down sales so I have to figure out later what was sold and in what sizes (she remembers the total cost, haha).

But this will be fun, methinks. I can take her at least twice by herself and then maybe take E once or so, before he turns three, kids under three are free. And being season passes, they come with free passes you can bring friends in with. So that would be “productive,” too.

The last time I went to Six Flags was when Steve and I were dating, in 1999. It was the year before they opened the waterpark part and all the ticket prices went sky-high. (Stupid, they should make waterpark goers pay more for their tickets, not everyone wants to get in that nasty water.) We went with some friends who, at that time, were dating and “planning on getting engaged.” They are now married with kids to other people. So, whatever. But it was fun. :)
