I’m killing time at the moment, waiting for my parents, my in-laws’ and a few of his aunts and uncles to get here. Nothing special, just dinner, cake, and some presents. The kid has never officially had a party before, though. I had ideas for this year but couldn’t work anything out, maybe next year will materialize something more extravagant.

Ah, but it seems like only yesterday…

Boy, he was pretty tiny then!

So, anyway, happy birthday to my little boy… the one who’s laughing at me now, saying, “What, Mommy!?” I can’t wait to see his reaction to that cake! :) It turned out awesome, he’s going to love it!

Had the wedding shower for my sister yesterday. It ended up going quite well. Thankfully, I hadn’t been expected to do it all myself! I had help from her friend/maid of honor, my cousin, and my sister-in-law. So it was nice not to have all the burden on myself, especially when it came to the punch, ’cause I really didn’t know what I was doing there. ;-)

Even though the games weren’t my department, I did end up doing multimedia for two games, but that was okay. They turned out cute. The first was a musical thing where we played a clip of a song and the guests got a point for guessing the artist, the song, then there were bonus points if they could pick out which three of the songs are going to be in the wedding. A possible 69 points, the highest score was 22, haha, I absolutely stumped them with a few.

The other was not really a game so much for the guests but before hand I had taped my brother-in-law-to-be (biltb), asking him 15 questions. My sister then had to answer the same questions (they were about him, you see), then we played his response on the big screen. She got 8 out of 15, haha. Everyone got a kick out of it, though.

But yeah, the shower was a good size, I think, about 30 people besides myself, but it wasn’t huge. We had a couple of solid groups of people: family from my dad’s side; family from my mom’s side; friends of my sister; biltb’s mom, sister, step-mom; and some other friends from church or family friends. I guess I was considered the main hostess, which is fine, but I always kick myself later, thinking I wasn’t a good hostess. I try to make sure I get a chance to talk to everyone — even when I’m not a hostess, like with my brother’s recent graduation party — but that’s not always possible, it seems. So later I think, “oh, I should have spent more time talking to so-and-so,” or “I hope so-and-so didn’t think I was rude/unfriendly,” etc. I dunno. I’m just too insecure, I guess.

Oh, one, thing, too, is it’s hard to talk to people you don’t know. Especially when those people look so familiar but you can’t place them. One girl I kept thinking I know her from somewhere and I went over to my friend and asked her if that was the girl that was in that play with her husband, A Streetcar Named Desire, playing the wife. She looked and said she wasn’t sure, but she looked familiar. But then I didn’t get a chance to talk to the girl — they came really late and were some of the first to leave. Ahhh but just got a text back from my sister and she says, nope, not the same girl. :P

The cake up there, though? Matches my bridesmaid’s dress, haha.

Um so there was a little gathering – mostly family – for one of my sisters-in-law who just graduated college with her Bachelor’s degree. It was pretty fun, though boring in the retelling I think. :)

Yeah, her school colors were red and black, so the bottom border of the cake was black icing. :) This stuff was hard to clean off him, too, haha.

Ummm… so very typical of me. I started this post hours ago then forgot about it so. Goodnight. :)

Yesterday, six of the girls came over and we just spent the night jabbing, watching movies, and snacking. We sat around and talked at first then watched Premonition which, I think, we all agreed was very good. Halfway through that, we decided we were very hungry and we called out for Chinese food. I had wanted to take them all to our favorite place a half an hour south of here but part of the agreement for getting rid of the boys was that they got the Jeep so I had no way to drive us all and wasn’t about to ask someone else to do the driving. We thought the place here in town would be good so we ended up with $54.40 in Chinese food and lots of left-overs! Hence the box in the photo… a lot of food! After Premonition, we tried a couple of other movies that didn’t have very interesting starts, so we ended up picking something from the Shelf of DVDs: The Jacket. After the boys returned, the big one left, the little one went to bed, then the girls left, then the big one came back and the two of us watched two more movies. Actually, I watched two, he watched one and 1/6 before he fell asleep. :P

It was pretty cool watching movies on our new *real* surround sound system for the first time. We bought it Friday night after our photos. Steve found it on sale for $97 from $150 with an additional 30% off. Not bad, really. It’s just fine, not a returned system, either – I think they just wanted to get rid of the models of this type since they had a newer one of the brand out now. Plus, Steve’s been wanting to get *real* surround sound (as opposed to “home made”) for some time now.

Friday we got our photos taken for our church’s directory. We had to pick one of the three of us to be in the directory and sent to us as a free 8×10 but I hate hate hated the photos they took of just me and Steve so I turned that down. But the ones of Elijah alone were freaking adorable. That kid totally turned on the charm in there. I was so surprised, I thought he was going to be a little terror, but he was such a little ham. So we ordered an 8×10 of the one of him. I’ll have to find a place in the living room for it. But in the photo to your left, you can see him posing – I took that with my cell phone.

My hair is red again. Very red. Though not quite as red as you see in the photo anymore. It was dyed three times in two days. On Wednesday I totally made it red – like you see there – I haven’t had a red color do that to me before. Then on Thursday my friend toned it down a bit for me. It’s still very red but at least now it looks more natural. I tell you what though. I should have seen it coming. I know they say it’s not indicative of the final product, but usually when I do my hair red (which hasn’t really been like I used to, since before I got pregnant) the actual dye would be purple in color. This stuff was so freaking red that I could have filmed the movie Psycho in my shower when I rinsed it out. It seriously looked like blood. I wish I’d had my camera in there, it was quite funny. Took forever though.

And now… I decided to move everything else I wanted to talk about to a new post later, so… yeah, that’s it. :)

…seven children ages three and under at a birthday party for one of the youngest… what does that say to you?

Mayhem.

And that’s what it was this evening. We were only there for about 3 hours, but it felt like a lot longer than that. During that time, I witnessed many things including Elijah being pushed down by a two-year old almost the second we got there which later resulted in knock down, drag out fights between Elijah, that two year old, and the three year old over several toys – mostly trucks and toddler riding vehicles, and a very messy one-year old… can we say cake?

Ah, I thought I was going to go crazy before the night was over!

And now I remember why we didn’t throw E a first birthday party…

Well today was wierd…
It started out normal enough. Because Elijah was sick, Steve stayed home with him, we didn’t want to get other kids at church sick, too.
I went to Sunday School alone (which I hate doing) and left a few minutes early to get to the tv room. Services went over as normal as could be and I stayed behind to learn more about editing. We were running as okay on time for that as possible considering services went about 15 minutes later than normal and there was a lot of editing to do this time. I left there about 1.30 when all B had to do was just layoff the final copy for the 2nd station we send our tapes to.
I went over to Walmart and got some baby food, diapers, cards (Jon’s birthday, Steve for anniversary & father’s day) and a big teddy bear for V. I drove thru Arby’s (hadn’t eaten all day) and headed out to V’s graduation party.
V is my good friend, she was a fellow homeschooler and we’ve been friends since I was in 10th grade, if not earlier. She’s a year younger than and behind me and she got her Bachelor’s degree in some performing arts thing this year. I got out there and was the only one I knew besides her and her parents. It was quite wierd considering I was a half an hour late and I expected to see the whole gang. The only ones that ended up showing up were T and her sister N. But the four of us had a great time catching up.
The party was due to get out at 4:30 and it was about 4:20 when Steve said, LEAVE NOW on the phone. Bad storms heading my way (tornadic).
I am never listening to him again.
It was horrible, the drive home!
Just outside of Hillsboro and a tree branch falls almost right in front of me on the road, lucky it was in the other lane. Then there were some people off in a 10 foot ditch.
I got to Festus and it was even worse. I got on Hwy 55 South and all I could see was grey – we were going like 40mph but I couldn’t see anything hardly at all. I started to hyperventilate.
All along, I’d been saying to myself, the peace that passes all understanding, the peace that passes all understanding, etc, trying to calm myself down.
I am good at rain and storm driving, I am. But this was bad, the worst ever.
So I got off the highway almost immediately and took 67 N almost immediately getting on 61 S. It was just as bad, I had to stop in front of the hospital and calm myself down again.
I started off again slowly behind another car and things miracuously cleared up enough for me to get back on 55 at the next Festus/61 exit.
It got bad again later, but never as bad as it had been in Festus.
I was very not-calm the whole time, but one of the things I kept thinking about was, ‘heck, if a tornado comes, I got my camera right here baby!’
But when it cleared up very nicely closer to home, that’s when I started to get mad. T’s mom had called her and told her to ‘stay put’ while my husband sent me out into the storm.
I got to Steve’s parents – my hands were purple and my muscles ached from holding on to the steering wheel so tightly.
Then I yelled at Steve. I think I scared Jon. Of course, all he could do was complain that his race wasn’t on due to weather announcements. Yes, I know that moron of a weather guy never shuts up, but please.
I felt better later though, after the IBuprophen kicked in.
We did our 40 Days and hung out a bit before I went home a bit earlier than I normally would have.
