We have a “new” local channel as of this summer, or at least that’s when I noticed it. Most nights at 9pm I’ve been watching the Beverly Hillbillies on it, they play mostly older stuff. Well, lately, we’ve been hit with this commercial… I was just hit with it twice in a row, in fact.

You see the backs of the heads of this couple sitting on the couch, watching tv, and you get to see what they’re watching. They see three people talking and change the channel after each one until you get to the one that’s the actual commercial they want you to see.

I understand two words in this whole commercial… financial freedom.

Why? The whole thing’s in Spanish!!

This is the first time I’ve seen a non-English commercial in our area… and I’m annoyed…

They talk wayyyyyyy too fast for me to even begin to try and figure out exactly what they’re talking about.

:(

Frustrating defined: getting emails (real emails, not spam) that are not in English when you know no other languages.

I got these two emails from the same person today. It appears that one was sent before they finished writing and then started again with the second. Anyway, the online translator is having a time with this* and I still don’t quite understand it. Can anyone lend a hand? It’s either Portuguese or Spanish, I guess… ???

This happens to me quite a bit when chatting with my non-English speaking cousins on MSN. I end up translating back and forth and they tend to write not using the appropriate accent marks and what have you. Thankfully I leaned rather quickly that though “bebe” means “it drinks,” she meant “bebé” – baby! Boy, was I confused…

Thanks everyone!

Friday night we were getting ready to leave and Steve was lying in E’s big boy bed (remember it’s a twin size) and playing with him and E kept climbing in and out of the bed. He was about to climb back in and I said, “come ‘ere, Boy!” because he needed a diaper and clothes change.

Without a second to spare, E replied, “no.”

Boy he got in trouble from Steve who said, “You don’t tell your mommy ‘no’!”

I had expected him to ignore me, but I hadn’t expected him to say “no.” That was the first time I’ve heard him say that word, let alone to me. And since then it’s been, “no, no, no, no, no, no!!”

This afternoon he even threw his cup off his highchair and then yelled “NO” at the dog who went to lick up the spilled milk as dog’s often do.

But the most horrible thing yesterday about being told “no” was that I couldn’t stop laughing. I know that’s really bad because it only confirms his behavior, but it was funny. :)

Another new word for E also came that day. We were in Dairy Queen with my brother and sister-in-law (we sat there for HOURS! I couldn’t believe it because we talked the whole time and didn’t get get bored and E was SUCH A GOOD BOY!!!!!) and we saw a little baby… about 4 months I guess… and I said, “see the baby?” And E looked and said, “Beeebeeee.” :-D

I am very glad about all of this, even the “no” word because it means he’s progressing! As some of you know, I was/am worried about him learning to talk because he will be two in just over a month and doesn’t say much at all, mostly screams and grunts. Which, by the way, I did talk to the doctor about this the other day a bit, and she didn’t seem concerned – not even about his tongue. I wonder if I like this doctor’s office. :P

Totally off-subject, but I also missed a “Kodak Moment” the other day in DQ… my sister-in-law taught E how to hang a spoon off his nose and he actually did it once! It was SO cute and SO funny, we were all laughing hysterically. He kept trying it (you know, the long, red DQ spoons) and it would fall almost immediately but one time he removed his hands very slowly at the same time and it stayed there! We all happened to be watching at that second and he just got the funniest look on his face like, “I did it, I did it! I can’t believe it, I did it!” I said I wished I had my camera and we all said, “Yay!” and clapped our hands like he does and then it fell. I’m going to have to try to get him to do it again so I can get a picture!!

[EDIT] Right after I posted this, I went up to get E outta his bed as he wasn’t napping anyway. I was playing with him in his room and I rolled him his little toy Jeep Cherokee and he said, “Ank Ooo.” Whoohoo! He said “thank you!” I couldn’t get him to repeat it after that, but I knew he said it. I always say it when he brings me things, like he brought me my keys today that were sitting on a table at church, across the room from me.
 He just said “uh-oh” while watching the Incredibles… at an appropriate point, too!
