The day before yesterday, I went to my friend Kate‘s house for a scrapbooking day! It was so much fun! I go to occasional scrapbook nights at another friend’s house, but there, though there might be 7 or 8 of us, I am the only one that does this stuff on a computer. So I do believe that Kate is my first friend that I know “in real life” that does digital scrapbooking, like me! We seem to love it for all the same reasons: it’s easier, cheaper than paper, and I know I am more creative with this than I ever was with paper. (Maybe in part because all those elements and thing-a-ma-bobs are so expensive!)

We gabbed so much I only got 2 layouts done. Ha! But that’s ok, it was nice to work on something of my OWN for a change. Lately I’ve been doing so much on the computer but it’s been someone else’s website, someone else’s photo editing, someone else’s book to put together, etc. I feel like I haven’t scrapped in a long time. Heck, when I got home that eventing, I had to sit down and use photos I’d taken of my friend’s kids to design her a Christmas card!

So, when can we do this again? :)

I finally had some time to do some scrapbooking tonight. I haven’t done any since I was in the hospital and did K’s birth announcements and before that it was a while since I’d actually done a page.

So here’s what I came up with:

The kit I used is Baby on Board by Brenshevia Taylor-Boone.
The word art (“Sweet Little Miracle”) is my first try at something like that. The fonts used in there are Pea Mushi and Pea Jamie which can be found for free at kevinandamanda.com/scrapbook/fonts/fontsforpeas/.

And if you like, you can download the word art here. There are two versions, high and low (referring to footprint placement). Click the images to download, both versions are included in the same file.

Please tell me what you think, if you download, and seasoned scrap designers, feel free to tell me what I’ve done wrong. :P

But, anyway, hopefully I’ll start finding more time to catch back up on scrapbooking. This page, by the way, is Kayleigh’s version of this one I did for Elijah over a year ago.

Oh, and maybe I should mention that the footprints are Kayleigh’s actual footprints that were done a day or two after she was born. They’re only about an inch long in actual size.

And thanks to my two judges Linda & Letti! Sorry for making you choose winners only to just blow on by your choices like this, lol.

And now, my scraplift using the June 2008 Songbird Avenue kit:

I lifted this layout by the kit’s creator (we were supposed to choose from her gallery). I feel like such a dork that I’m the first entry, hah, but the post popped up in my reader just as I was about to do something with that photo anyway, so…. :)

What’s a scraplift? I’ve been asked this several times now, so thought I’d just clue y’all in. ;-) It’s basically when you take someone else’s layout and re-do it with your own photos, papers, elements, etc. You’re just way inspired by that layout. Sometimes, I think that it’s also when you re-do a *real* paper layout digitally. Yeah, other genres of art would consider this plagiarism… lol… but apparently digital scrapbookers don’t and those that I’ve run across even seem to love to have their stuff scraplfited! So there you have it. :)

But, anyway, I want to do a book for my sister and now brother-in-law with their wedding photos, so I guess there we have one. I will need to make changes to it for the book, though, such as removing the date (why would we want to repeat that on every page?) and probably centering the layout more. I also got this kit from Shabby Miss Jenn to use for the book since my sister’s wedding was beach themed.

Tonight I participated in my first ever speed scrap at scrapmatters.com. Basically how that works is for an hour, every ten minutes, you get a new set of instructions and you compile a page along with others then share! I’m really not sure what the point is other than to have fun together and impose some pressure on yourself, haha. So since Elijah was in bed and Steve was asleep on the couch, I figured I’d go for it.

Here’s what I came up with, what do you think?

The rules were:
1. You can only have one photo
2. You have to have at least 3 patterned papers and 1 solid
3. You have to have three of the same shapes
4. Use some sort of hardware such a staple or brad, etc.
5. Some embellishments: at least one button, one flower, no ribbons or wraps, etc.
6. One font and one alpha two-word title
7. Add some journaling

I think the hardest thing for me was keeping up. There was a lot of conversation going on as well and I got quite overwhelmed with all the posts. Oh, that and it’s always so hard lately for me to decide what papers and such to use as I’m often scrapping something boy-ish because of Elijah but most of the stuff I have and stuff I want to use and like is girlie! But I think I did well. :)

So, last month I purchased and downloaded my first kit from Songbird Avenue, right? Well, I also participated in a little promotion that got me a giftcard that I promptly used to download this month’s kit, Leap of Faith.

No surprise, it’s a great kit! I’ve already put it to use in some of my “free” time yesterday.

However, it all goes to charity, right? So, I’d have bought the kit anyway. But since I got mine free, I want to share. So, during this month, you can join my first-ever contest here at spoken-for.org to win one of three gift certificates to songbirdavenue.com. Of course, if this kit doesn’t quite do it for you, you can use the certificate for next month, or August, if you like.

So, how to enter?

The way to win is to, of course, design a layout! Download my first-ever freebie template, Spring Fling, and do up a layout using any papers, elements, etc., you want to. Post it somewhere on the ‘net, and leave a comment here with the link to your layout.

When the deadline rolls around, three judges will each be choosing their favorite layout as a winner. Judges to be announced. :)

The entry deadline is June 25th, 2008, that’s 3 weeks from today so even if you’ve never done this before, you have plenty of time to get started!

I will then be posting the winners and sending out the gift certificates on Friday the 27th, so you’ll still have at least 3 days to get June’s kit if you so desire.

Just for fun, here’s a layout I did with the template that comes in the kit (oh, yes, a template, too!) using the kit:

I’m going to try and do another one tonight.

Get started!!
