I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really wanted to go see Kenny Chesney and Sugarland when they come to the St. Louis area in August. We’d talked this week about going with some friends who love Sugarland. Steve really likes Sugarland, apparently, Kenny Chesney would only be there for me. Anyway, tickets finally went on sale yesterday, so this morning I went to look to see how much they were so I could possibly get us four tickets.

All I have to say is… ridiculous!

Steve has already made it clear that: “who wants to sit in the grass in August?” So lawn seats were out for us. But any – any – any seated seat is $72.75 each! Right down in front as well as allllllllllllllll the way back in the second section, row ZZ! AND, they charge you a building facility charge of $4.25 and a convenience charge of $14.60 bringing your total for one ticket to $91.60… probably plus tax which in that area would probably be another $7 each, bringing your total closer to the $100 mark.

What the heck!? I only paid $45, I believe it was, to see a Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera at the Fox Theatre just over a year ago at way better seats than the second section, row ZZ. Wait – that’s wrong – my total for those tickets was in the $70 range so they were even cheaper than that…

Man, I wonder if when I went to see the Goo Goo Dolls and Counting Crows at this place last year if the tickets were that expensive. I got to go for free since my friend was interning at a radio station at the time and she got to bring a friend every concert she worked.

What’s a building facility charge and a convenience charge anyway?

Oh, well, it just means that we won’t be going. I’m probably going to have to buy a new cell phone soon (mine is baaaaaad off) so I’d rather put the money into that.

Sorry, Kenny, you’ll just have to see me another time. After all… I can listen on the radio or the iPod for free. :P

Okay, so, the concert.

It was totally cool. And if you don’t remember, on Friday I went to see the Goo Goo Dolls and Counting Crows in St. Louis… well, technically Maryland Heights, but whatever.

I first helped out my friend who is interning with a radio station, and that was kinda fun… it was really hot and almost unbearable until the sun started to set, but it was fun. :) They had a huge billboard that the GGDs bought that people had to sign and there was really a lot going on there. The coolest thing, haha, was that we didn’t have to go through security, hahahaha. Ohhh and we got free drinks, and they put me in a radio t-shirt so people thought I was… cool. Except the other radio booths. They looked at us mean.

Well, anyway. When we were done, we were given some actual concert tickets, which, I’m told is not a usual occurrance. She said usually she’s gotta sit on the grass. So while they were not very great seats, we were happy we could sit in chairs.

So we missed the opening band, I don’t even know who it was. We were busy then. But we were seated before the Goo Goo Dolls came out and, actually, we were both surprised to learn that the Counting Crows were actually the headliners. But the Goo Goo Dolls were great and I even worked up the courage to get some photos. Especially with Christine‘s goading on text message (heehee) and the fact that many other people were taking them with flash and not getting yelled at by the creepy security guy. So I went for it… without flash. I took many that did not turn out, but a few that did, that I am quite happy with.

Those are just some randomly picked ones.

Now, the Counting Crows… I was turned off with their lead singer right away. He talked before the GGDs came out and he said that it was, “our f***ing duty to vote.” Now, that may be true, but I don’t see the point for the f-bomb, especially since there were lots of kids there. Then when they were actually out on stage, he said that word constantly, amongst other words. Now, I’m not afraid of profanity or anything, but, seriously, these guys are supposed to be professionals and he just sounded like a complete moron up there, like he has no grasp whatsoever of the English language. He just was not fun to listen to and lost my attention almost immediately. Because of his idiocy, I didn’t really care a lick about whatever charity he was talking about. Honestly. The lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls didn’t have to use profanity to get his point across… hmmm…

Moving along… The CCs were okay. But they weren’t playing any songs (but one) that we knew, and even that one is a remake. So we skipped early on them. Plus, it didn’t help that the guy right behind us – seriously, like 60 years old – was whistling so loud we were getting headaches. And he was completely rude, he kept whistling while the lead singer was talking and yelling for them to “get on with it.” Of course, I had lost interest in whatever the guy had to say at that point, too, so maybe I don’t completely blame this drunk idiot for his behavior. However, he just kept it up and I was seriously getting a migrane. So I just turned around and stared at him for like… five minutes. Then the guy behind him noticed me and told him to “shut the f*** up, maaaaan.” He was just as drunk. “We can’t hear hiiiiiiim, dude.” The guy kept up the whistling and then the people down his row started telling him to “shut the f*** up, duuuude.” I thought a fight was going to break out. That’s when we left, maybe there was a fight, I dunno.

Well, here are the CC pics. I don’t have nearly as many of them for two reasons: 1. they were lame, 2. the old people in front of us would NOT stop swaying and sit their fat butts down. Okay…

Afterwards we had, like, the shortest visit to Steak ‘n’ Shake, like, eva. Seriously, our food was quick to arrive… it was nice because it was really late and I didn’t get home until nearly 1am even though we left the concert early and all that jazz.

Yesterday I took Sarah to Six Flags for the first time. It was a long day to say the least, but we did have a ton of fun. It was nice to get a “vacation” from the everyday even if it was extremely hot!

On the drive up, I realized I had not been to Six Flags in nearly seven years, since 1999! While a lot of it was the same, there was also a lot of new things: new rides, a new kiddy area, and the new policies that require us to enter through metal detectors and then get any bags checked before we even get to the ticket windows.

We processed our season passes (which took for.ev.er to get through the line and all of five seconds to process as we were herded through like cattle) and then started with the rides.

It was extremely cool because Sarah had never been before, she didn’t even know what a roller coaster was! I did my best to explain to her, but the best explanation was really just getting her on the Mine Train. We laughed so hard, my lips were almost frozen in a permanent smile (a scary one that shows alllllll the teeth). She freaked for a second when we went in the tunnel and the nearly straight down drop, but it only lasts a second so she was okay. We ended up riding that first and then last in the day.

We rode the bumper cars, the Screaming Eagle (roller coaster), Rush Street Flier (no way to describe this, really), the swings, Thunder River (boats along a “river”), the HUGE ferris wheel (that sucked, long story), and more. Of course, we got soaked on the Thunder River. Everyone says “duh” to that but I don’t think I’ve ever actually been soaked on that ride before. Of course, though, the one time I would have my purse and camera…

Soaked to the skin we went out to the Jeep, laid down the backseat, and changed clothes. That was a trip for sure. And, of course, we still had wet butts thanks to our underwear. :)

After it was all said and done, we went to the MercyMe concert. (And there you have it, that’s what the photo from the previous photo is from, my cell phone at the concert.)

Can you guess which song they opened with?

You got it!!

Spoken For! :-)

The concert was great, even if we were in the beyond-nose-bleed seats. I think that was the third time I’ve seen MercyMe (I’ve been following them since before they put out Almost There when they had out two cds I don’t even think you can get anymore and they don’t advertise on their site last I checked) and I can’t wait to get their new cd later this month, the one I pre-ordered. :)

So I’ve had a long weekend, and it’s only Saturday. I’ll finish uploading all the photos later, I promise, some of them are pretty good, actually. I’ll probably update this post with the photos as well. If you’re going to want to “check on” the photos, the whole set will be located here. So, until then, goodnight and Happy Easter everyone. :)

I just had a really strange dream. I seem to have the strangest dreams when I go back to sleep after Steve leaves for work.

So I was at my church, but I was in school. We were in band class, getting ready for a concert. It started out strange because there were people from both church and when I went to school where I was in band (6th-9th grade) and Steve. Also there was the lady who taught me the clarinet and the flute who we are still friends with today, although I haven’t talked to her in a while. I guess I dreamed her because I was just thinking about her yesterday, wondering how she’s doing and such.

So we were all up in the choir area, had it rearranged around, and we were having to go to her one at a time and hum the first part of our music score to prove we knew it. I had this terror go through me because I realized that not only had I not practiced, but I hadn’t played my clarinet in years. So I went up there and memorized the first couple of lines really quick and hummed them very sorry-like to her, then laughed that I couldn’t sing. She laughed and sent me on.

I started worrying because I thought, “oh no! I don’t even know if I have a good reed in there.” And I sat down in my chair and asked Sheila to pass me the clarinet case. Very weird because she wasn’t there later.

I squeaked on the clarinet and Steve made a face at me. Really embarrassed I ran off to the bathroom real quick to fix my skirt. It was a short skirt, which is also strange, because I like mine ankle-length, when I actually wear them. I came back to the concert just as they were getting started.

I sat down next to Steve who was playing some little funny looking French horn thing – he actually played the sax in 9th grade (but then he got into Varsity football and blah blah blah). I was also next to “my mortal enemy’s mother” with my “mortal enemy” next to her. I don’t remember what they were playing. I looked at my score and it said 3rd clarinet and I mentioned to Steve, if I was 3rd clarinet, why was I the only clarinet? And I wondered where my friend T was – he played clarinet and bass clarinet with us when I was in band in school.

The only reed I had must not have been a clarinet reed, it was way too wide, and it was also torn up.

We started and we all sucked royal you-know-what. Every one of us squeaked or was out of tune or extremely off beat, except the piano, I couldn’t even remember they correct fingering for the correct notes. We slowly stopped playing, no one in the audience laughed, they just stared at us.

Then some choir in the back of the church started singing, and they were awesome, and slowly we faded away.

It was so strange.
Strange for all of those things I already mentioned and strange that it maintained a steady piece of scenery – usually my stuff changes to other places while we’re doing the same things. But it was accurate, the church, except for the bathroom – it was HUGE and had about 10 showers in it.
It’s also Strange I dream about all of those people I haven’t seen in years, let alone think about.

Of course, people popping up out of the blue has happened before. Some day I will tell you about pregnancy dreams, they are very strange… wait… no, I won’t…
