Rating: 10

I totally loved this book, keep that in mind though I don’t really have time to finish my review just yet! I really did like this book and I learned a lot – there were many new perspectives for me to think about, lots of new information, and just plain new ways to think about “old” information.

INTRODUCTION:
The introduction talked a bit about the respect of woman and how feminism and goddess worship are not about respect, they’re completely the opposite. For instance, in places where goddess worship reigned, women were often seen as sexual objects to be used and the priestesses were only glorified prostitutes. That is not respect.
However, contrary to secular belief, the Bible maintains complete respect of women. They are not objects to be used or stepped on, they are the glorious and honored part of the human race.

EVE: MOTHER OF ALL LIVING
In this first chapter, the book discussed Eve, the first woman. A lot of this I already know, but a lot of it I didn’t and even more I was shown in a new perpsective.
Eve was created from Adam, the only thing of creation created from another living thing. She came from his rib, a part of his body he wouldn’t miss but from a place close to his heart, at his side. She was created as a helper, not a stepstool or a lord, to be at his side. Adam did not ask for Eve, she was given to him, a very special gift.
When Eve ate of the forbidden tree, she was decieved. The book explains all of this quite well and there is no way for me to go into it all here. However, I think I understand the concept of Original Sin better after reading this chapter. I understand more how sin is carried to each one of us before our births: Adam was not decieved like Eve was, he took willingly of the fruit she offered him. Then, of course, both of them knew what had happened and both tried to push the blame from themselves.
Beyond all of that I am left with a lot of wondering more about Eve. I don’t always think of her as a grandmother to me, more of a figure in history, but she was the mother of all the human race, and I wonder what she was like in both appearace, demeanor, thought, etc.

LYDIA: A HOSPITAL HEART OPENED
I’ve heard of Lydia before, but she never exactly would come to mind if I were to think about extraordinary women of the Bible, in fact, I didn’t know anything about her. So you could basically say that she was new to me.
I learned a little bit about her, where she came from, and what her life situation may have been like. She was independent, searching, and she found Paul and his gang; though she was Asian, she met them in Europe. After hearing them and experiencing a conversion, she immediately changed her life. She put up Paul and the gang in her own home, and this may have been some rather large group and it seems that they stayed for quite a time. She gave Paul a base from which to start the first European church!
