hmmm… what?
The other day I mentioned that I joined the Disney Movie Club* out of a desire to get some of the classics like Bambi and such. I want to get a lot of the movies I used to watch when I was little. I am confident that Elijah will love them.
As far as classics, we already have Robin Hood and Bambi and Elijah loves both of them. I got Robin Hood as soon as it came out because it is my all-time favorite Disney and I had to have it. We got Bambi as his Mommy-is-very-sorry-you-had-to-get-a-tooth-out gift this week. I wanted to buy it before but Steve was concerned it would scare Elijah and another time, E insisted I “put it back” while at the store that he wanted Ice Age instead (that wasn’t bad either, both Ice Age movies for $25, but that’s not Disney, lol). He’d also insisted I put back Robin Hood when I bought that, but once I put it on he was in love with it. I don’t know why he does that… Anyway, once I’d found out Bambi had gone back into that stupid vault, I started looking for it, and not finding it at several places until I finally found it that day at Blockbuster… it was unavailable from the club along with several others I want to get.
But when I am finished with my requirements in the club, we end up with 8 DVDs for less than $10 each, including shipping. Not bad. In fact, I’ve already fulfilled my requirements and I’ll probably cancel after they actually arrive… then wait for them to beg me back. :P Of course, going through their whole list, it looks like I’m already getting everything I want, that I can get from them. We’re getting Peter Pan, Dumbo, Cinderella, Aladdin, Toy Story 1, Toy Story 2, Alice in Wonderland, and The Fox and The Hound.
Aladdin’s kind of my cut-off. I wasn’t sure about that, it will probably scare Elijah, but if nothing else, Sarah will like it. And, yeah, Toy Story isn’t all that classic, but it’s one of the better newer ones I’d actually go for (like the Incredibles, which we already have). I also like Monsters Inc., but that scares the crap out of E, so we’ll hold off on that one. Oh, and Cars, we already have that one, too. (Strangely enough, E loves the toys and the concepts but still refuses to watch the movie.) Now that I think about it, I think I like the classics and the Pixar ones, heh, though I’ve still never seen Finding Nemo all the way through.
So I’m still needing to get The Jungle Book (which just came out again the other day and is on amazon.com for only $15 so I’ll be ordering that in about five minutes), The Lady and the Tramp, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and, I guess 101 Dalmatians.
Am I missing anything? Haha.
A lot of that might sound like “girlie” movies, but I think there’s still something for everyone in them. For instance, I know E will love the mice in Cinderella, and the dwarves in Snow White. Sleeping Beauty might be the only one with nothing for him, unless he’s not scared of the dragon (who knows? I mean, he’s scared of Monsters Inc, but not the Incredibles or Shrek, etc.), but it’s also not a priority. There’s also stuff like Beauty and the Beast and the Little Mermaid, but I’m not too concerned about them right now, though I know Sarah would love to have The Little Mermaid… hmmm…
Yes, we watch too much TV in this family, lol. I am working on that… Fridays are free-for-all though, if we’re not doing anything during the day, so he’s watching Robin Hood right now… if you can call banging your blocks with a toy hammer watching a movie anyway… But I’d rather him watch these movies than those commercial-ridden Nickelodeon and Noggin shows, you know?
Another movie I recall seeing a lot when I was little was All Dogs Go to Heaven. My cousin loved that movie and she wanted to rent that and Dirty Dancing every time she got to rent movies, why my aunt didn’t just buy it, who knows? So we’d watch that nearly every time I’d spend the night over there. Of course, that one just might make me cry…
What are the animated Disney classics you remember from your childhood?
As you know, my all-time favorite was Robin Hood then I think runner up was Lady and the Tramp and probably the Jungle Book…
* I’m being penalized by Google for ads, I think, and an analyzer is flagging this post because of the Disney Movie Club link. That site is easy to find though, disneymovieclub.com. This is NOT a sponsored post, I get no money from this post, it is a real topic I wanted to write about.

I don’t know if this one is a Disney movie, but Oliver and Company, and then of course The Aristocats!
Robin Hood is my all time favorite too, and The Fox and The Hound is such a close second!

Robin Hood is my #2 favorite Disney movie. My #1 is one I know that’s a little too “adult” for Elijah…
The Great Mouse Detective! When Ratigan’s voice starts a’goin’, I start a’cringin’! Plus, I didn’t realize until recently that I never fully got all of the jokes until I was older. Man, I was a lame kid. LOL!
But it’s still my favorite Disney movie of all time. It’s got Vincent Price and a cute Sherlock Holmes mouse and a fat mouse with a mustache. A MUSTACHE, I SAY!

Sam currently adores, in no particular order:
Monsters Inc.
Lion King
Pete’s Dragon
Cars
We don’t have a lot of the classics here (I LOVE Disney movies so have Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, Little Mermaid etc., but S thinks they’re ‘girl’ films, so won’t watch them!) Only Alice in Wonderland (my all time fav, I think, along with Mary Poppins) scares him so far!

Oooh, yeah, I think I saw Oliver and Company in there but I had completely forgotten about the Aristocats! I liked that when I was younger, too! Elyse, The Great Mouse Detective is too adult? Or am I missing something? It’s been a long long long time since I’ve seen that one!!
Vixx, that’s funny about girl films. Silly boys :) now that I think about it though, E might not mind. Pink is currently his favorite color again LOL. Silly. Pete’s Dragon, that’s another one I’d forgotten about – I guess because it’s not fully animated. E might like that. It’s another I’ve not seen in years. And The Lion King, I had thought maybe it would be too scary, but if S likes it, E might, too…? I hope Alice in Wonderland doesn’t!

Well, it’s not “adult” like… you know… ZOMG! NAKED PEOPLE AND SEX! But, I remember that it gave me a nightmare once when I was a kid. Which is funny because I liked Freddy Krueger movies when I was a kid. LOL!

LMAO Elyse :)
I have to admit, though, I have never seen any Freddy Krueger movies! I did see part of Child’s Play 1, though, and it scared the #$%^ outta me and I can’t look at him to this day. :P

Well there’s always a catch, isn’t there? Anyone joining this club should be aware that they do not email or send you a card about the featured selection like other clubs I’ve been in. You have to actively log in or call to see what it is and decline, etc. As it stands, we’ve got the Jungle Book on the way which, we obviously already have, because of this. Also, they are claiming I’ve not fulfilled my membership agreement and that I have one left to buy which is pure crap. The thing I got in the mail explicitly said that if I picked four and then bought another two for $10 and $15, that I would only have two left to buy. The girl claims that a sale item of $10 doesn’t count towards the membership fulfillment, so I have one left to buy. But I know that isn’t what I agreed to and I may not have joined if that were the case. So I’m going to send back this Jungle Book which is $10 more than the one I bought on Amazon and it will take them 6 to 7 weeks to refund the charge to my debit card.
