hmmm… what?
Some of you know that I used to teach various-aged kids at church once upon a time… Some of you know that I was once basically the youth leader for a while at a local place… Some of you also know that one of these boys from there is now in the Army. I guess he’s 18 now (was 17 when he joined).
I went to his sister’s wedding last weekend and he wasn’t there, of course. So I was very happy to run into him online today.
Yup, he’s in Iraq. But I’m so proud of my little helicopter machinist. :-)
I got the mailing address for him and asked him if there was anything he needed/wanted. He’s asked for dryer sheets, beef jerky, Little Debbies, and a recent newspaper.
I’ve heard that baby wipes are coveted out there… Anyone else have any suggestions?

Nothing that will melt, or change to explode, or that expires.. could take month or more to get the mail there..
Normaly people send twizzlers/gum/ none melting candy.
Another good idea is instant drinks. like Ice tea/Gatoraide/crystla light. the stuff u can put into a bottle of water to make the drink. Not the BIG version, but the one use packages…
Candy/food should be individualy wrapped if possible over a box… Bugs will be attracked to them and generaly forbidden outside chow hall/common eating areas..

Has a lot of information on stuff like that. Its mostly concentrated on books, but the people on the forums also post ideas for packages, places to get great deals… Might find something handy in there. :o)

The last request for home goodies I received was for powdered Gatorade for convenience obviously, and more imoprtantly for the electrolytes. You can buy it by the case, too.
PS Heya Stranger! :) (Oh wait, that’s me). I’m still catching up from school, I’ll be ’round more often in no time soon now.

Aww, that’s sweet that you’re sending him stuff! I’ve been trying to think of ideas on what to send but unfortunately the only thing that comes to my mind is: nothing that melts :D

Aww. I hope his sister’s wedding went well.
I’m glad you got back in touch with him :) I’ve never heard of Little Debbies, but damn they look cool HAHA. Baby wipes? But why would you bring your baby to Iraq? Perhaps I’m missing the point completely hahaha.

It’s great that you were able to attend the wedding, and that you met (well sorta) the guy in the army again. Hope everyone is doing well!
