I found this thread on a search I did to see if others were having the same problem as my wife, and sure enough here it is. She had the captcha appearing a lot of the time a couple of years back, but then it stopped. Today it's back again.

We've both used Yahoo for ages, although I had to move to Google already for other things, like bookmarks. Yahoo's was so unuser friendly. Their Help on it was useless. Google's works like a charm. I've wanted to stay with them, but a lot of their stuff just doesn't work smoothly.

The there's Yahoo photos (or whatever it was called). They cancelled that, and now they've got a partnership with some other company, and you have to give them access to your data. Will they be ending that in the future, so that users will have to change again?

I never used that last service -- and pardon me if you think I'm getting off the topic, but my point here is that they just don't seem to be able to get it together in the areas that count, no matter how much they try to offer.

This insult with the captcha is the last straw. Time to move fully over to Gmail...

I WANT CAPTCHA OUT OF MY LIFE ASAP!!!! It's more than intrusive, It's absolutely relentless in that it won't stop asking for more. Even after I type in the characters, instead of appreciating it, it only sends out more. This must be an illegal intrusion!! It used to be random, now it's contstant and I have not been able two send my emails for two days and thereis no telephone support and I don't know if this is helping, so I will move on to some other more customer friendly email.
